Husband and Wife Team; Cat and Mike

Unlike mass-produced ceramics, handmade pottery exhibits subtle imperfections and variations that signify its authenticity and craftsmanship. This adds to the unique beauty of what I create - "from my hands to your heart.” - Mike Wolniewicz

For over 35 years Mike has been a creative force. In college he majored in Ceramics and Furniture Design and received a bachelor's in industrial design from Buffalo State University. Mike uses wheel throwing and a form of meditation and grounding. He finds that the quiet working of the clay is therapeutic and through his functional designs he incorporates feminine and masculine qualities. Mike's artistic journey is marked by a constant evolution, as he integrates new ideas while honoring traditional methods.

Mike’s furniture incorporates arts and crafts style of Roycroft, Greene and Greene along with a Japanese aesthetic. His furniture can be found in homes in Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, Florida and NY. Some of his pieces have been featured in magazines. By cultivating a deep understanding of materials and craftsmanship, his furniture pieces are characterized by a blend of functionality and aesthetics, often incorporating natural wood grains and clean lines. Each creation reflects his commitment to quality and durability, ensuring that every item can serve its purpose for years to come.

Color plays a vital role in the aesthetic appeal of handmade pottery. And so his wife Cat, a ceramic/multimedia artist finishes the pottery with hand painted designs and the use of food safe glazes that yield rich, earthy tones or vibrant hues, which can evoke feelings of warmth and comfort. The application of her designs can include intricate patterns and textures, adding depth and visual interest to each piece.

Together Cat and Mike strive to create beautiful and functional items that people can connect with. their studios are located in Springville, NY. They often can be seen at local festivals and have open studio events at their location. Visit the Events Page for more information or sign up to be on their email list.
